The brand new ‘SpongeBob Film’ will probably be on Netflix tomorrow … besides within the US and Canada

Waiting is the hardest part. This is a consistently true fact, but it doesn’t make it easier to swallow. And today, November 4th, 2020, this is a particularly difficult fact. I’m talking about the American publication of, of course The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run. In a different timeline, we would have seen this film in theaters this year on Memorial Day weekend. Instead, thanks to something that rhymes with “schomonashmirus,” the new SpongeBob movie will hit Netflix tomorrow, November 5th! Great news, right? Well, for most of the world, yes; According to Cartoon Brew, this version only applies to international countries. But for the United States of America and Canada (which actually got the chance to see the movie in theaters this August), we’ll have to wait until 2021 to see the thing – and it won’t be on Netflix. Ugh, it’s especially hard to be American today!

We previously reported that Sponge on the Run will be coming to America in 2021 in a kind of “reversal” Mulan“Location. Initially, it will offer PVOD digital rental services for the first time before moving to its permanent streaming home on CBS All Access. Sorry, that’s Paramount + now.” And although the world will be there tomorrow on Netflix gets (in a deal that, along with Paramount, means part of the film’s financial burden for the streaming studio), the US is still stuck in our PVOD / Paramount + Purgatory. And the film’s director, Tim Hill, am not exactly thrilled about it!

In an interview with Looper, Hill frankly said of his film’s strange way of being seen, “It’s awful. I was hoping for a big fanfare and a great premiere and to see all the people I had worked with and do a cast and crew screening to at least thank people, which never happened. It was just what we’re doing now, like, ‘Bye. The movie is over. ‘It sure didn’t feel natural. “Hill says what many of us cinephiles and filmmakers think: It’s difficult to consume stuff without the feel of a mass audience. We hope Sponge on the Run can make a splash when it finally reaches our coast.

The SpongeBob movie: Sponge on the Run is coming to Netflix in International Territories and PVOD services on November 5th, and eventually to Paramount + in the US sometime in 2021. You can find more information about the property in a trailer from 2019. Easier times …
