Rebel Finale Recap: Did the ABC Drama Bring a Happy Ending for Everyone?
Rebel’s eponymous heroine is a hot mess, and the ABC drama’s two-hour finale confirmed exactly why this is one of her best qualities.
Rebels apartment was in utter disarray with reporters camped outside because of their drunk and misdemeanor arrest. To make matters worse, their expert witness Cartson suffered a nervous breakdown and was unable to testify. Also, Ziggy, who was still mad at Grady for having a secret love child, hit reporters in a rage that went viral.
Things didn’t go any better in court when Cruz battled Stonemore’s ruthless lawyers. Benji discredited one of his witnesses on the stand and cross-examined another as completely unsympathetic. Benji then passed reign to Rebel’s daughter Cassidy, who denounced Misha’s credibility by revealing her affair with a married colleague – private information Nathaniel Cassidy told confidentially while he pondered his relationship.
Outside the courtroom, Stonemore’s tactics were even more seedy. They paid Ziggy’s friend Sean $ 20,000 to mislead Rebel into thinking Ziggy had an overdose and was in the hospital. In addition, Cartson mysteriously disappeared and his husband was found drugged on the floor after the police officers who were watching them were called for an emergency. Both were false positives: Ziggy had been in court the entire time, and Carston left a voicemail with cryptic clues that led Rebel and Lana to a random storage room. After digging through mountains of junk, they found a jump drive and the key to winning their process.
Back in court, Cruz held on time by calling Nathaniel to the stand to explain the conception in excruciating detail. Meanwhile, Lana and Rebel hurried with the jump drive to Misha, who could not understand the attached documents. Why was there any evidence that the valves were tested on people with healthy hearts? Rebel quickly put it all together and stormed to the attorney general’s office with Lana in tow.
Elsewhere, Grady tried to get Ziggy to deal with her boyfriend Sean, who was caught escaping to Las Vegas. He only took the money to help his younger brother, who was stuck with a terrible foster mother. The trio then passed by the said woman’s house and smuggled the boy out without being discovered.
Cruz tried again to wait longer, and was almost at the end of his rope when Rebel burst through the doors with some important and disturbing information: Stonemore was testing her heart valves on healthy inmates in exchange for early release recommendations. After that revelation, Cruz left a final settlement offer on the table – $ 600 million plus the cost of removing the valve and a guarantee that the defective product would be removed from the market. Stonemore gave in, of course.
The mood in Rebels house has shifted in contrast to the start of the process. Everyone was happy and celebrated the great victory. Ziggy’s college fund was certain Sean’s brother would be staying with them now, Misha and Nathaniel made up after Nathaniel revealed their secret, and Nathaniel and Misha even buried the hatchet in the courtroom after the betrayal. Plus, Cassidy has found a new case that she, Rebel, and Benji can work on together. Cheers.
