Netflix’s first take a look at the Adam Challenge goes again in time with Ryan Reynolds

Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds has teamed up again with Netflix for the upcoming science fiction film. The Adam Projectand the actor has now shared our first official look at the time travel adventure. The Adam Project is slated to begin production in Vancouver this month. Reynolds provided the first glimpse into the film in a frame that stars the action star alongside child actor Walker Scobell, who plays the 13-year-old version of Reynolds in the film.

“Let’s go … filming has started on The Adam Project for @netflix. This is a dream cast and crew. Glad to be back in the arms of my friend, life coach and director @slevydirect again.”

At the center of the Adam project is 13-year-old Adam Reed, who a year earlier mourned the sudden death of his father when he went into his garage one night and found a wounded pilot hiding there. That mysterious pilot (Ryan Reynolds) turns out to be the older version of himself from the future, where time travel is still in its infancy. He risked everything to return to the past on a secret mission, and together they must go on an adventure into the past to find their father, fix things and save the world.

The original Netflix film was originally shot on Paramount eight years ago. During that time, Mission: Impossible star and Hollywood icon Tom Cruise was attached. Since then, the script has gone through several rewrites, with the final iteration being written by Jonathan Tropper, screenwriter of Irreplaceable You and Banshee. As part of the Adam Project, which was recently recorded by Netflix, Reynolds will again work with Shawn Levy, director of Free Guy, and will have David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger on board as producers.

Avengers: Endgame star Mark Ruffalo recently signed up for the project along with Oscar-nominated actress Catherine Keener. Ruffalo will be on board as Reynolds’ father, a brilliant physicist, with Keener as the villain’s villain, who stole powerful technology from him. The Adam Project also stars Guardians of the Galaxy star Zoe Saldana as Reynolds ‘fighter pilot wife and alias’ Jennifer Garner, who is said to play Adam’s mother at the age of 13.

The Adam Project will also be the first film to feature Ryan Reynolds’ Group Initiative project, which aims to develop talent from underrepresented groups in Hollywood in the name of diversity and inclusion. The actor announced the initiative over the summer, stating that regardless of age, he would find and pay between 10 and 20 apprentices from marginalized communities to accommodate and train them for his next film.

Reynolds has several high profile projects up the pipeline alongside The Adam Project, including Netflix’s big budget action film Red Notice starring Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot, and the video game-inspired Free Guy directed by Shawn Levy. It was also recently announced that Reynolds will re-appear as Marvel anti-hero Deadpool. Wendy Molyneaux and Lizzie Molyneaux-Loeglin sign up to write the script for the highly anticipated comic book Threequel.

The Adam Project has no release date yet, but is expected to be released on Netflix sometime in 2021. This is courtesy of Ryan Reynolds’ official Instagram account.
